2021 is very favourable for the Faculty of Physics in the ratings. Just this year:

  • in the ranking of the “Perspektywy”, we obtained 3rd place in Poland, in the category of physics majors, and
  • for the first time, the University of Białystok, thanks to the achievements of the Faculty of Physics, was placed in the TOP-500 world’s universities in the subject of physics in Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

Ranking of the “Perspektywy”: 3rd place in Poland!

As every year, the results of the “Perspektywy” ranking appeared – we were pleased to note that in the ranking of majors in physics we are on the podium – we are third in the country! Only the University of Warsaw (UW) and the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow were ahead of us.


This year’s result is not a complete surprise – a year ago we were in sixth place in the “Perspektywy” ranking of physics majors, and we know that we improve our position with good scientific achievements. Therefore, the high position in the “Perspektywy” does not surprise us – although the podium together with UW and UJ in the country is a very nice company.

Shanghai ranking: TOP-500 in the world!

Thanks to the scientific achievements of the Faculty of Physics, the University of Białystok, as the only university in the Podlasie region, was included in the prestigious group of 25 Polish academic universities noted in the annual Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). For the first time, UwB ranked in the TOP-500, i.e. in the top 500 of the highest-ranked universities from all over the world in the subject of physics. The Faculty of Physics is in the distinguished group of six university physics faculties in Poland included in the ranking.

The GRAS ranking has been published since 2017 by the Chinese agency ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. It takes into account 54 disciplines assigned to five fields: life sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, and technical and engineering sciences. A total of 1800 universities from 93 countries are included in the rankings for each discipline. Click here to go to the ranking.

“A” – research category

For the last 13 years, the Faculty of Physics has been granted the scientific category A by the Ministry of Education and Science (formerly Ministry of Science and Higher Education). Category A indicates a very high position of the Faculty of Physics in Poland in physical sciences.
